U4 is a unique case, by the way. There's only one ending - become the Avatar, read the codex - so trying to play it differently doesn't work. You can be bad (or evil), if you like, but you can't win that way. Xian, that's the thing. If a game does have branches, they may be in there too far along. Multiple paths need to be set up earlier. Ag, some games have quests everywhere, so to speak. Trying to do them all in the first pass well, better you than me ;) Post your review!
